Atmosphere
Koth is a wall of green. The canopy is so thick that sunlight barely reaches the ground, filtering down as a sickly emerald glow. The air is hot, wet, and thick with the buzzing of insects — some mundane, some very much not. The jungle is alive in ways that forests elsewhere are not: vines move with purpose, flowers exhale narcotic pollen, and the eyes of predators glow between the roots of trees taller than castle towers.
Foreigners call it the "Green Hell" for good reason. Many tropical diseases can be caught here by outsiders — usually not lethal but capable of leaving visitors bedridden for weeks. The locals are largely immune, and their guides are worth their weight in gold. Beneath the canopy lie the ruins of an age when Koth was a vital center of human civilization.
History & Ancient Magic
In ancient times, Koth was a key province of the Ikosian Empire. Its influence collapsed after the Cataclysm caused the desertification of Xlotic, isolating the region from the rest of the Ikosian world. The jungle reclaimed what civilization abandoned.
The region is littered with ancient ruins featuring inscriptions in Old Majara — the precursor language to modern soul magic research. Many rare plants and unique magical species flourish in its dense, mana-rich forests.
