Magical Lineage
Magical Lineage
Category: Background
Description
You come from a family of practising mages. Magic was your bedtime story, your chore list, and your dinner conversation. Where other students struggle with basic mana shaping exercises, you find them almost tediously familiar. You arrived at the Academy already knowing more than most first-years — but the Academy's structured approach to magic is very different from your family's traditions.
Fictional Permission
You inherently sense when ancient or powerful magic was recently used in your immediate vicinity.
Mechanical Benefits
Background Move — Old Blood: When you roll to Shape the Matrix using unstructured, raw magical force instead of a Grimoire formula, treat a 6- as a 7-9 once per quest.
Connection (Anchor)
Family Mentor. You have a relative who is an established mage. once per quest, you may write to them for advice on a specific magical problem. The GM provides a useful (but not complete) answer.
Roleplay Hooks
- Your family practises magic differently from the Academy's methods. Some of your instincts conflict with what the professors teach.
- A professor recognises your family name and expects great things — or holds a grudge against a relative.
- Your family's magical tradition includes knowledge that the Academy considers outdated or heterodox.
"My mother could shape mana before she could read. I have a lot to live up to."
