Immortals
Immortals
- What it is: People who have halted their aging through personalized magical methods — they can still be killed, but they do not grow old.
The dream of eternal life has been a constant since time immemorial. Immortals are people who have successfully halted their aging through magic. They can still get killed, die in accidents, or contract lethal diseases, but given favorable circumstances, they could potentially live forever. The average lifespan of a known immortal ranges between 500 and 700 years — most eventually meet a violent end or accumulate enough enemies to be hunted down.
Immortality is not a single spell or a universal formula. Each method must be personalized to a specific individual's soul and body, making it impossible to mass-produce or teach in an academy.
Known Methods of Immortality
- Alchemy: The "orthodox" method involves a potion of youth that halts aging. Ideally, it restores a person to their physical prime. The recipe requires exceedingly rare ingredients and extensive personal calibration.
- Rituals: Complex magical rituals involving soul and blood magic. Considered deeply taboo by the Church.
- Hybrids: Combined alchemical and ritual approaches.
- Magical Flora/Fauna: Some plants (like the extinct celestial lotus) and animals (like rainbow sea turtle eggs) are believed to permanently halt aging. The rainbow sea turtle was hunted to near-extinction because its eggs were a crucial ingredient in the only publicly known potion of youth recipe.
Note: Undead and spirits are not considered true immortals, as they naturally do not age.
The Immortal Eleven
The most famous immortals in the modern era. During the time of the Old Alliance, a project called 'The 200 Project' gathered 200 gifted teenagers to produce loyal archmages. The project disbanded after 10 years due to quarreling founders. However, twenty of the students swore a pact of brotherhood and journeyed across Altazia, Miasina, and Hsan. By the time they returned, only eleven survived — and they never aged again.
The Immortal Eleven helped each other become immortal, making them highly unusual. They are globally recognized figures of immense power:
