Puls

Beats time into the matrix — pulses, intervals, staggered releases, heartbeat pacing.

How it works

Puls is tempo. It does not decide what happens so much as when. Stacked under Stoss it staggers impacts; under Hall it peals in measures; under Fluss it meters the pour. Fictionally Puls loves clocks, drums, breaths, and exam bells. Fight the room's rhythm and Puls fights you back.

Combines well with: Stoss (timed hits), Hall (peals), Faden (pulses along a line).

Function in Compositions

Anchor glyph. Use it when the fiction needs this verb at the center of the declaration, then dress it with school and scale.

Typical 7-9 Risk Signature

7-9: the rhythm lands, but it desyncs — early, late, or echoing when you wanted silence.

School Affinity Notes

Frequent in Projection and Chronomancy work, but any school may borrow it when the fiction fits.

Usage Examples

  • You Puls a ward so it checks the hallway every three breaths instead of constantly draining you.
  • Duty-cycle the ward -> Abjuration -> Puls -> Soft -> efficiency, watch
  • In a dance-hall cover you Puls a glamour heartbeat so the false persona stays alive.
  • Keep the glamour breathing -> Illusionism -> Puls -> Soft -> cover, sustain
  • You mis-Puls an enemy chronomancer's count so their delay spell lands a beat late.
  • Desync their count -> Chronomancy -> Puls -> Hard -> counter, time
  • During a ritual you Puls four corners in sequence so the Kreis closes only on the fourth.
  • Close the circle on four -> Abjuration -> Puls -> Standard -> ritual, sequence
  • You Puls a distress Hall so it repeats until answered, then falls quiet.
  • Repeat the call until heard -> Projection -> Puls -> Soft -> signal, rescue
