Alchemy

Fictional Permission

When you hold Alchemy in your Grimoire, you have specific fictional positioning.

Alchemy CAN:

  • Prepare reagents, distill essences, and stockpile scene-useful compounds between beats.
  • Justify gear, antidotes, smoke, solvents, and lab-scale hazards in fiction.
  • Feed another school's casting with prepared carriers (oils, powders, inks) when the GM agrees.

Alchemy CANNOT:

  • Bypass Shape the Matrix for on-the-spot miracles unless you are also declaring a real school + glyph track.
  • Auto-solve investigations or healing without play (pair with Divination / Medical Magic fiction).
  • Ignore scarcity: notable brews cost time, materials, and often a clock or complication.

The Core Matrix

Alchemy is currently a support discipline, not a standalone Technique Glyph school.

  • It does not grant an independent Technique Glyph progression at this time.
  • Use Alchemy as fictional positioning for preparation, reagents, and laboratory procedures.
  • For active spell shaping, resolve effects through relevant core-school Technique Glyph tracks.
  • Use Brew Alchemy and Crafting for mechanical resolution (hybrid simple/advanced model).
  • Alchemy uses the same level cap as Core Schools, but levels unlock support crafting scope/reliability instead of Technique Glyph tiers.
