Conditions

Conditions are fiction-first states applied by moves, wounds, and the GM. They change your positioning (what you can attempt, what the GM can leverage) rather than stacking numeric penalties. Clear conditions through the fiction: rest, treatment, time, or a move that says so.

Physical (Health Track)

These pair with the 7-box Physical Health track in 01 Core Mechanics.

  • Battered — Minor cuts and bruises (from Hurt). You struggle with agility and prolonged physical strain.
  • Bleeding — Significant tissue damage (from Injured). You leave a trail and grow weaker over time; untreated bleeding escalates.
  • Broken — Severe fractures (from Wounded). A limb is useless; the GM declares certain physical actions impossible.
  • Critical — Major trauma (from Mauled). You are moments from collapse; any further harm pushes you toward Crippled/Incapacitated.

Mental (Sanity Track)

These pair with Sanity and the Resist Erosion move (see Sanity).

  • Alienated — Sanity 7 (Detachment). You struggle to connect with normal humans; the GM leverages this in social scenes.
  • Derangement — Sanity 4 (Dissociation). Develop a specific derangement (e.g. Paranoia, Phobia) chosen in fiction.
  • Apathy — Sanity 2. You must roll +Willpower just to take action in stressful situations.
  • Paranoia / Tremors (Temporary) — From a 7-9 on Resist Erosion. Lasts until the end of the quest unless treated.

Effort & Channel Strain

  • Exhausted — From desperate channel strain or forced crafting. Fiction: you push past your limits; the GM leverages fatigue until you rest.
  • Tremors — From channel strain (see Channel Strain & Harm). Unsteady hands: anything requiring fine control (shaping, lockpicking, surgery) is at risk until you rest.

Social & Fictional

  • Debt — From the Noble move The House Always Collects (The Noble). A favor owed that the House can cash in: a marriage arrangement, a political favor, a public appearance. Cleared by honoring the demand.
  • Favor Owed — From 7-9 results on social moves. Someone resents being leaned on until the debt is repaid in fiction.
