Detect Magic
Declaration: Read the magical residue of a place, object, or person. Spell from the Divination school, using the glyph Hall. Standard (close range, single target, brief) difficulty. Tags detection, analysis
Technique Glyph: Hall (Anchor) Role: anchor — resonance and echo Function: reads traces and signatures left by magic School: Divination Expected Mana Cost: 1 tick (Standard)
Stack variant: Hall + Puls sweeps a rhythmic scan across a wider area, catching fading traces — one extra tick (see Magic System).
Fictional Trigger
When you need to know whether something is enchanted, what school worked here, or how fresh a magical trace is.
Outcome Ladders
- 10+: you read the residue cleanly — presence, school, relative age, and one useful detail about the caster or effect.
- 7-9: you get the presence and school, but the signal is muddy: the GM chooses one — false positive from background noise, the trace's age is unclear, or the reading attracts the attention of something that notices being watched.
- 6-: the resonance snaps back and feeds you a false or dangerous impression, and the GM makes a hard move.

Notes
A Divination staple drilled in first-year courses. Cheap enough to cast routinely — which is exactly why experienced mages learn to mask their signatures with Schleier.
