Angels
Angels
Angels are spirits that serve the gods as part of the angelic hierarchy. They are bound by a multitude of rules regarding what they can and cannot do, and have duties they must attend to. In return, they live relatively comfortable and safe lives in their spiritual strongholds.
Origins and The Silence
Officially, angels (and other spirits) were created by the gods. Unofficially, people wonder if this is true, as no living spirit remembers the creation of the world. Some heretics claim the gods merely found the spirits and co-opted them as servants.
The Silence of the Gods weakened angels, but they inherited considerable infrastructure from their divine masters. Their reach in the spiritual realm shrank, but their strongholds remain essentially unassailable.
Morality and Mindset
Angels are deliberately mysterious when interacting with material beings, heavily restricted in what they can say. They are clearly not human in mentality. They care about obeying rules, listening to superiors, and staying true to their morals on a deep, instinctual level that humans find next to impossible to grasp. To angels, humans and other material beings are severely lacking in dedication, thoughtfulness, and selflessness.
Angels do manifest emotions and desires, but they try to live up to their virtues—not just because they are forced to by divine restrictions. There are no "fallen angels" in their eyes; an angel that rejects the hierarchy is simply classified as a demon.
The Triumvirate Church is strongly aligned with angelic dogma, viewing demons as rebels against the gods.
