Description
The Kingdom of Eldemar is the primary national setting of this campaign. It is one of the "Big Three" major powers of the Altazia continent, originally the head of a group of loosely allied states called the Old Alliance (officially the Alliance of Eldemar).
A terrible king and internal problems caused the alliance to fracture. The subsequent Splinter Wars — made especially devastating by the introduction of firearms, which allowed smaller nations to defeat those with powerful mage armies — split it apart further. Today, Eldemar is formed from the core of the Old Alliance. It is ruled by a King, though the Council of Elders (composed of Noble Houses) holds immense political sway.
Geography and Cities
Eldemar is strategically located in Altazia's Central Valley. Its major settlements include:
- Cyoria: The intellectual heart of the kingdom, home to the Royal Academy of Magical Arts.
- Korsa: The third-largest city and a major industrial trade hub.
- Knyazov Dveri: A northern town known as the "Prince's Gates."
- Cirin: A smaller town and birthplace of the party.
Modern State
Today, Eldemar is a smaller but fiercely nationalistic monarchy that yearns for its former glory and refuses to accept that the alliance is over. The kingdom is currently engaged in the Great Northern Push, an effort to colonize the northern wilderness.
The kingdom is also undergoing a Technological Revolution, integrating trains and mass-produced firearms. It is leading the charge in the democratization of magic, allowing commoners to attend prestigious academies.
