Media and Propaganda
Media and Propaganda
The invention of the magitech printing press and the mana-telegraph has revolutionized communication in Altazia. Information now travels faster than ever before, making the control of that information a powerful political tool.
The Rise of the Broadstreet Press
Daily newspapers and weekly broadsheets have become a staple of urban life. They report on everything from magitech innovations and dungeon delving expeditions to international politics and high-society gossip. For the first time, the general public is rapidly informed of global events, drastically shifting the political landscape.
Propaganda and State Control
Following the devastation of the Splinter Wars, governments and the Noble Houses quickly realized the power of mass media.
- Narrative Control: Most major newspapers are secretly or overtly funded by political factions. They are used to sway public opinion, drum up nationalism, or smear political rivals.
- Censorship: The state frequently censors reports on sensitive topics, such as severe Dungeon breakouts, illegal soul magic cults, or the failures of the Magistracy.
The Magical Underground
In response to state-controlled media, a robust underground press has emerged. Radical mages, dissenting academics, and marginalized groups use localized, hidden printing presses to distribute pamphlets and manifestos. These underground publications are crucial for spreading unvarnished truths, but distributing them is highly illegal and heavily prosecuted.
