The Necromancers' War
Following the unprecedented global migration triggered by The Cataclysm, human kingdoms scrambled to establish themselves in Altazia. Amidst this chaos, a horrific conflict known as the Necromancers' War erupted.
The Undead Nobility
A powerful faction of necromancers, largely drawn from former Ikosian nobility seeking immortality, attempted to seize control of the fragmented human settlements. They mass-produced armies of the dead, utilizing the corpses of the fallen to bolster their ranks, and sought to establish an eternal ruling class of intelligent undead.
The Exile to Ulquaan Ibasa
The living kingdoms of Altazia, unified by existential terror and coordinated heavily by the newly re-established Triumvirate Church, fought a desperate war of extermination against the necromancers.
Ultimately, the living were victorious. However, the cost of utterly destroying the entrenched undead leadership was deemed too high. Instead, a treaty was struck. The surviving necromancers, liches, and intelligent undead were forcibly exiled to the remote, monster-infested island of Ulquaan Ibasa in the Nerud Archipelago. They were permanently banned from the mainland under threat of total annihilation, a tense ceasefire that has held—barely—to the modern day.
