Rural Outsider
Rural Outsider
Category: Background
Description
You come from a village far from Cyoria — maybe the farmlands of Eldemar, maybe a border settlement near Koth or Sulamnon. The city is overwhelming, the Academy is terrifying, and the other students speak in references you don't understand. But you've survived harsh winters, crop failures, and things in the woods that city folk don't believe in.
Starting Bonus
Gain +2 extra Flaw Points (you may take up to 6 points of Flaws instead of 4). Life has been harder for you, but you've learned to make the most of adversity.
Connection
Village Elder. Your village elder or local wise-woman is a minor practitioner with deep knowledge of folk magic, herbalism, and local spirits. Once per arc, you may consult them for practical (if old-fashioned) magical advice.
Roleplay Hooks
- You receive word that your village is in trouble — monsters, drought, or political pressure — and you're the only one who can help.
- A professor is fascinated by your village's folk magic traditions and keeps asking intrusive questions.
- The other students find your accent and manners amusing. You find their ignorance of the real world equally amusing.
"Everyone here talks about mana theory. Where I'm from, we just called it 'not dying.'"
