Monster Hunter's Heir
Monster Hunter's Heir
Your family makes a living harvesting magical beast components from the Dungeon or the dangerous Koth wilds. You know how to track a drake and how to bleed a troll.
Overview
While the Dungeon Scavenger background focuses on the subterranean ruins beneath Cyoria, you grew up in the true wilderness. Your family operates as professional monster hunters, trackers, and survivalists. You've spent weeks sleeping in the mud, setting alchemical traps, and learning the migratory patterns of extremely dangerous magical fauna.
You are intimately familiar with the anatomy, weaknesses, and behaviors of beasts that most Academy students have only seen in textbooks. You view magic not as a delicate art, but as a brutal tool for survival and hunting.
Mechanical Benefits
- Starting Bonus: Gain +1 free dot in Survival and +1 free dot in Awareness.
- Connection — The Hunter's Lodge: You belong to a loose fraternity of professional trackers and beast slayers. Once per arc, you can call upon them to get expert tracking assistance in the wilderness, identify a completely unknown biological threat, or secure rare, freshly-harvested magical beast components at cost.
Roleplay Hooks
- Apex Predator: You constantly evaluate the people around you as either predators or prey, and you refuse to act like prey.
- Trophy Collector: You have a morbid habit of taking teeth, claws, or scales from the creatures you defeat to make into jewelry or fetishes.
- Wilderness Discomfort: You actually feel claustrophobic and anxious in the crowded, clean streets of Cyoria, preferring the honest danger of the woods or the deep caves.
